Community group An Tobar have been awarded a £61,900 National Lottery grant to help connect people with heritage in Brian’s Wood, Silverbridge.
The project will enhance access to the wood, including for young people with additional learning needs, carers and families from lower socio-economic backgrounds.
Through 60 workshops, An Tobar will increase knowledge about local heritage whilst also improving people’s wellbeing. Workshops will cover a range of topics, from forest bathing, to geology to community and cultural heritage.
Young people will be able to work towards the John Muir Environmental Award, which encourages people from all backgrounds to connect with and care for wild places.
This project will allow many more people to enjoy our woodland, learn new skills and feel for themselves the wonderful health and wellbeing benefits that come from outdoor activity and nature connection.

Their digital plan includes a new website and interactive learning materials, helping them to promote the wood’s heritage to an even wider audience.
The project will also improve nature trails, plant trees and install new seating, preserving heritage for future generations.
